FAQs

What is aging in place?

"Aging-In Place" simply means being able to remain in one's home throughout the aging process and being able to live comfortably, independently, and safely for one's maturing years.

What is Universal Design?

Universal Design is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.

What does CAPS stand for?

CAPS stands for "Certified Aging in Place Specialist." A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) has been trained in:

  • The unique needs of the older adult population
  • Aging-in-place home modifications
  • Common remodeling projects
  • Solutions to common barriers

Are you Licensed?

Yes, we are licensed and insured - we are Certified Residential Contractors (CRC-057575) which means that we are licensed throughout the State of Florida to remodel or build houses. Contact Home Sweet Accessible Home at 904-342-6844 today for your free home assessment!

What does it Cost to remodel?

Just like anything else, it depends on several factors. For even large whole house remodels, choosing to renovate can save thousands off just one year's stay in an assisted living community. Unfortunately most elderly people, in not knowing where to turn, usually decide that moving is their only option. At HSAH we always look at the feasibility of your needs and weigh it against moving or building new. It's always worth the time to compare.

Do you accept Credit Cards?

Yes! We accept the following credit cards - Visa, Discover and American Express.

Can you provide financing?

Yes! We offer 12- and 18-month "same as cash" financing for qualified customers. Please call us for details!

What is done in a Home Assessment?

Our experienced team will cover each room in your home as well as the exterior that will show any safety, or home accessibility shortcomings. We look for common issues like; secure flooring, adequate lighting, accessibility to the home (and through the home) and other common safety elements. The result is a report that can be used by the family to plan for the future needs in the home.

The best time to do an assessment and to plan for your future is while you are still healthy. Studies show that the earlier the planning is done the more time you have to get used to the changes, and most importantly have a safer home that will help prevent accidents from occurring.

Does the Home Assessment cost anything?

No! There is no cost for a standard Home Assessment; however, more elaborate plans and assessments are available that do require a consultation fee which is typically credited against the cost of modifications or remodeling. My Mother is having a hard time getting into (and especially out of) her bath tub. What can be done to help her?

There are several things that can be done to make her bathing much safer and more comfortable. First option would be to add a shower seat with adjustable legs. Make sure that there are proper grab bars in the correct locations. Another lower cost option is for HSAH to install a "Safeway Step" to the tub to lower the step over height. They are also available with a swinging door to allow her to continue to use the tub. Lastly if the budget allows the tub can be removed and replaced with a walk-in tub with water therapy. If tub bathing is not important, a curb-less shower can be installed in place of the tub with adjustable shower arms and multiple therapeutic jets.
